The GM giveth and the auditor taketh away
So, back in June wife and I stayed at LAX Marriott for 1 night. Had to be one of the most miserable stays ever, especially as Platinum Elite at FS Marriott. Long story short, sent complaint via website, got call from GM, worked things out. Then, they realized they had used the wrong certificate for our award stay (they used a 110k pt. one vs the 87.5k one they should have). So, this GM credits me back the full 110k points as a "courtesy".
Fast forward to this week, and there is a mysterious deduction of 27.5k from my account. Contact member services via web site and get a response that the MR audit discovered I should have only gotten 87.5k, not 110k. Replied what happened, explained what GM told me and forwarded copy of GM's e-mail.
Response back --- the GM would have to buy the points in order to give them to you. If you want to take it up with him, please do so but we aren't crediting the 27.5k back to your account.
Anyone else ever have this issue? Am I just SOL? If this is how they are going to treat a PM who has well over 100 nights each of the past 3 years and already have over 40 booked for next.... well, maybe I need to rethink my hotel preferences. Am I overreacting? (I don't need the points, having almost 1mm banked, it's the principal).
