Right now in midtown NYC the snow has turned to rain--but it is probably snowing somewhere along the coast, messing up flights (as usual). As for Sunday, at this point the forecast is still for a storm begining that day. Although yesterday am, they said the storm would hit Sat night into Sun. Best bet for you would be get as early a flight from PHX into EWR. It's an easy train ride on Sun morning, even if there is a storm, so you should be good for that. That train runs on the Amtrak line--even though you'll be on NJ Transit, which they keep running. Worst case, you take the train back to New Brunswick if flights are all being cancelled.
