If UA is trying to attract higher end paying premium cabin clients with their "new" C and F, the obvious solution would have been (or will be) to implement an in-flight internet solution as the planes go through refit. What a no-brainer. Premium cabins can connect for free via ethernet and the rest of the plane by paid wifi access. The geek squad can figure out how to best allocate bandwidth accordingly. The planes will all be flying long haul, where such access would be more likely to be desired.
Maybe Connexion was just too early
