I'm not sure I favor chip & pin. It's still not secure (plenty of scams in the UK that I read about in the papers there), and I could easily see U.S. credit card companies abandoning the $50 fraud/theft liability limit if chip & pin went into effect. Essentially, I could see them arguing/lobbying that the legal presumption should be that if a card is used with chip and pin, there is a strong presumption of authorized charges, making it even more difficult for a cardholder to deal with the effects of fraudulent use.
