Same article states that the seats concerned on the 74M and 744 include 12DE-17DE, which are in what is supposed to be the Select Seating zone, i.e. restricted to Elite and full-fare Y pax as long as seats are available further back. We can only hope that very few pax are dumb enough to fork out €100 for the privilege of sitting next to each other.

That, unfortunately, is not likely to give KL cause to reconsider. Given the low costs (in dollars and dimes, not in the terms of the costs of alienating frequent flyers, which they are unlikely to give a hoot about) of selling these seats, even a low uptake will contribute to the bottom line, and therefore warrant declaring the concept a success.
