The
article in the Press Gazette is quite interesting and worth reading. It also mentions that NW is losing its air cargo contract with DHL next year and is considering what to do with that part of its business (they are currently the only U. S. carrier with dedicated cargo aircraft - 747's) and also they are "very actively looking at" who the right partner would be if mergers were to happen" - and a merger would have to be done by February to clear regulatory hurdles before Bush leaves office in January 2009.
