It will definetely annoy anyone at the hotel that I'm doing this.

As for your comparison to the paycheck, at the time I was employed I would have to give the money back because my contract said I get amount X per month, not amount Y. This was always the same and only went up once a year (and definetely not with a zero ) But this only applies to people who held their part of a contract/agreement to which I count myself. I heard about rumors contracts have more or less substantial value especially in hotel business...
