I accidentally ran a passport through the washing machine days before a trip. I got some nasty scowls from a Canadian agent, none in Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong, and a another from a US agent.

My passport still scanned, but when I went to replace it after returning from my trip, the US Post did not consider it a valid form of ID and my birth certificate was required to have a one issued. Weird
