Yeah... and if you're going to swap for a different seat type, you'd better be swapping your good seat for my bad seat. Being 6'5, I feel especially irritated when people ask me to switch my non-bulkhead for their bulk-head (also aisle for window, but that's less of an issue). On Y, asking to switch your non-exit row for my exit row, or a 9d on 757 for 10d is simply not fair. I even feel insulted when people would ask that, as if they didn't know that my seat was superior. On that note, I did switch a 9d for a 10d once -- a mom (already sitting in my 9d) had placed her near-infant on 9e and asked if we could switch for her 10d. With everyone looking and to avoid inconveniencing the pax in 10e, I agreed, but was upset the entire flight.

On the other hand, my girlfriend and I are usually both upgraded, but sometimes end on different seats. I always try to get us either sitting together (when possible) or on different rows but on the same 'column'. That way, if 4e wants to switch with me (5e), I'll switch -- if 5f wants to switch with my girflriend, they'll switch. Otherwise (almost happened once), we'll just sit apart, no big deal either.

In some cases, only one of us is upgraded in the 3-100 hour mark, so we'll take the upgrade and wait for the other at the gate. If that doesn't happen, we've asked the Y pax to take our F seat. Note: we don't ask the GA to get downgraded, because then it would be more difficult to get the Y pax sitting next to me/my girlfriend to switch seats.

Once i asked someone in 21A (on a S80) to switch seats with me. He frowned, but finally asked where I was sitting. When I told him 4E, he just looked perplexed and started looking around. The pax in 21D just said, "wow, that's first class, what a bargain", and the 21A finally agreed, but still asked to see my BP.
