As an AC customer,I am quite content with J cabin seating vs.whatever UA gives their customers.
My goal in 2008,is not to fly a single UA segment. This may prove challenging

You may be quite happy using passes to sit up front, but the true difference between AC and UA is the fact that UA's elites get a quantifiable benefit when flying in the back cabin (when they cannot use the various means of upgrading, or are low or mid-tier elites): E+ seating with extra pitch and the likelihood on all but fully booked flights that the middle seat will be left empty. AC's "Preferred" seating is no better than its regular economy seating, worse on non-XM'd narrow body Airbuses.
That UA has decided not to extend this to STARGolds from other programs is fair. If you want the extra space, pay for it. The "upgrade" is not all that much, so why harp on this subject once more. We've been here many, many times before!
