Consultants (and I am one) end up being loyal to particular hotel chains and airlines. The loyalty brings upgrades, mileage bonuses, and continued accumulation of miles / points for our all-too-infrequent (though often lavish) vacations.
Don't forget the fact that loyalty also tends to bring better treatment when things go south, which can make a big difference as to whether your travelers get to their destination a few hours late or whether they're stuck overnight in a different city. Similarly for hotels, it can make the difference between being able to snag a room when the place is packed vs. having to stay somewhere much less convenient. For employees or longer-term consultants, this can be a significant consideration.
