It is not convenient to travel to Lga or JFK from that awful place. AA has limited flights from EWR and CO has many. BF on CO is much better than J on AA despite ngbc on AA.
Tough decision but once you are stuck in traffic trying to get to JFK or LGA you might want to reconsider AA
You are so right " that awful place" remember every hour you spend backtracking through ORD or DFW is an 1 hour less spent in NJ, in addition to stopover in DFW with friends and lots of additional miles x 2 and First class upgrades. With CO you would have to start all over
