If I remember correctly at DEN when they had the contract ID checkers there were a max of five at the main checkpoints standing there. They would also help guide you to an x-ray line. Now there are 5-8 TSA checkers at their podiums not paying any attention to what is going on behind them (that is someone else's job).
I just went through the DEN south checkpoint. Contract ID checkers still there. Only four are working. Non-elite line is about 15 minutes to the ID charade, wait from the ID podium to the crossing of the WTMD is another five to seven minutes, as only four of out of the nine checkpoints were open.
