Back to Google Earth, you would really benefit from get it running; first by itself - then you can <file> <open> the previously downloaded .kmz file.

That will overlay with centerline, edges and frequent local circumstances.
I finally did get Google Earth up and running and it is wonderful.

I found a trip to Tokara Japan which is on or near the center line. That's where my deposit is right now. There's also a group going to Iwo Jima which I think is near maximum totality. If I can get in on that trip and it's not an arm and a leg, I'll go on that one.
