I am very late weighing in on this, but I have heard the same noise sitting next to the door...sounds like someone is hitting the door with a baseball bat. I believe that the noise has something to do with either thermal contraction of the door against the seal or expansion due to pressure change. It is cringe-inducing when you first hear it, but honestly I have heard it enough now that it doesn't make me flinch (much) anymore.
