Have you been to DEL before? You really don't want to be airside there any more than you have to be .... despite the huge improvements from say three years ago or even a year ago.
I have been to DEL before, though it's been a few years. I know the airport isn't great (far from it, in fact), but since I'll have lounge access, I would think that I'll be marginally more comfortable in the lounge airside than in the terminal landside, waiting for the LH check-in to open. I don't really want to head into the city for a couple of hours in the middle of the night - I don't know it well enough for that.
