I don't mind if they compare names on my cc and ID but have yet have a hotel photo copy my ID. Photocopying is where I would dry the line for the reasons mentioned above. Iirc all the hotels I've stayed at over the years have cameras at the front desk where my beautiful mug is being filmed for security reasons. If there is some issue with ID later on down the road is all they have to do is look at what time the card was scanned and bring up that time on the camera. Sounds fishy too me with the photocopying of the ID. I don't blame you for telling the front desk person to pound sand.
