The smoking gun for me was the involvement of Norm Dicks and the reporter's statement of a TSA response. I know from experience that he and his staff are much more competent and thorough than to get worked up over an unconfirmed blog. Further, Congress was in recess when this took place and my guess is that Dicks was home when this went down, so his staff had easy access to the people on the scene. My guess is that he saw the story on TV and asked a staffer to follow up to find out more details. Dicks is a strong pro-military guy and I've got to believe that he became unglued over this. I think I still know someone on his staff so I'll try to run this to ground myself.
