How much do I pay to buy up my consolidator "w" fare to "h" fare?
I'm considering buying an international ticket from a consolidator. Hypothetically,
the price on the ticket will state $600, be a "w" fare, yet I may pay only say $525 hard cash for the ticket. If I decide later to convert this ticket to an "H" fare (still in economy class) so I can upgrade with miles (which I couldn't do with the "w" fare), and let's say the published "h" fare is $800, can I go to a United ticket facility and pay the difference of $200 in hard cash ($800-$600) or must I go back to the travel agent and work it out with them? Thanks in advance.
