If US doesn't let its passengers check in luggage less thatn 45 minutes, then that is a serious degradation in customer service, especially compared to WN.
United often imposes 1 hour check-in cut-offs in San Francisco.
And I've often arrived at SFO with almost 2 hours before my flight is set to leave, gone to check in at the Star Gold preferred line, waited (and waited and waited and waited) only to be told that I "hadn't checked in soon enough."
So US is far from the only network carrier with bag check-in cut-offs that have extended in time.
It's best not to check in at the last minute as a rule -- especially considering flights book 25 to 30 minutes before departure and security can often take 15 to 20 minutes on a bad day all by itself.
