Flight attendants threaten action on medical plan
Nickkita Lau

"We hope to resolve the dispute through dialogue with Cathay Pacific before December 10," union chairwoman Becky Kwan Siu-wa said. "But if it does not talk to us or refuses to withdraw its policy, it will have to bear the consequences."

A flight attendant surnamed Cheung, who had been with Cathay Pacific for eight years, said the airline had been overly strict and unfair to employees claiming sick leave.

Cheung said if management detects a pattern in an employee's sick leave applications, that person will only be allowed to visit a doctor authorized by the company. If the doctor does not consider a day off necessary, 3 hours wages - HK$650 in Cheung's case - will be docked from the employee.
