That, indeed, may occur -- no one knows, as yet.
What I can tell you is that I tried initially to use the Holiday2 discount code when going thru the United mall -- heeding the concern that I might not get the AA bonus miles by using an external code -- and the transaction would not complete -- kept on getting a message to contact gc.com.
Of course, if the only way to get it to work was to do a phone order, it eviscerates the miles to be received thru the United mall.
So, decided to try thru the AA portal, and it went thru!
Now, I am not trying for any AA portal threshold spend, so if the miles never post, it is not critical to me -- especially since the discount on the gift cards and certs that I purchased from a variety of vendors with the code, still amounted to my receiving the certs/cards at less than face value, even after the gc.com fees are factored in.
Point to note -- I purchased an REI e-cert which I will then use via another portal -- probably FW's 5% discount -- to purchase an REI gift card which ships free to my recipient. If you want miles, you can go thru an REI miles earning portal and do the same thing.
If you want immediate gratification and intend to purchase at REI this holiday season for yourself or someone else, then e-mail yourself an REI e-cert from the REI website, and then go thru the portal of your choice for a triple Dip!!
So, if I earn AA miles on the initial purchase with the GC.com code, so much the better, but if not, I won't lose any sleep over it!
