In all fairness to US, I say good riddance to the $178 PHL-LAX fares. Sure, they were a steal, and I took advantage of them often enough....but there's no profit to be made by shuttling every Tom, Dick and Harry across the country on what it costs to fill up the gas tank of your typical SUV these days.
On the flip side, $1,900 for a refundable coach fare is inexcusable.
SS-I see your logic and agree but i am going to play devil's advocate. If the plane is less than half full, i'd rather have 178 than trying to get someone to buy it at 1900.......you may have one or two last minutes do that but i doubt it since it is the 4Q and low #'s of biz travelers.....maybe they are a pricing it that high because of these headwinds and to avoid a fuel stop in MCI.......
