No one offered you a no-fee card that earns half the miles? Maybe you actually have to say you're cancelling. Or maybe they don't give it out anymore. I had MP Visa for a year, cancelled, they said "Hey, we'll give you MP 'Rewards' Visa, has no fee, you earn one mile for every $2 instead of for every $1." I said fine. Still have it, and it still gives the miles and costs nothing. The key is to cancel on the phone. Although it is equally possible that they've stopped doing new issues of this card. I do know this card is not publicized and I've never seen a way you can apply for it directly. It seems to be specifically a way to keep you on if you're cancelling.
