It is a bit frustrating, but what UA has done is open up their consolidator inventory for web-only bookings. These Q-class fares cannot be issued by travel agents, nor by UA TKOs, and are only available, it appears, as E-tickets. This means there is no way to further discount them by applying UA MCOs and other forms of credits or vouchers. I suppose UA will argue these fares are so low -- at least $300 to $400 less than the V- and H-class fares to Asian destinations and which can be bought through their own res agents, and TAs.
One is also restricted as to the type of seating that can be selected on the web site when booking such fares. It is impossible to access Y+ or much of the economy cabin. However, a call to UA res will permit reassignment if one qualifies for Y+ seating.
It will be interesting to see if UA releases these same rock bottom fares to TAs and into the Res booking system in the fall, if loads remain light.
In any case, these web-only fares do make for irresistable mileage runs, either to top up this year's balance, or to start off next year's Q-mile account. Book five returns from ORD to SIN at $600, and for $3K plus hotels and land costs, one can achieve 1K pretty quickly and quite cheaply.
