Still studying English then?

To OP, I've been to both a number of low key local events here in YEG as well as much larger full on FT organized do in TLS and the spirit is much the same; regular folks who share a passion for travel meet to swap stories and experiences. Among those who knew each other I didn't feel out of place at my first big event this past Spring in TLS and everyone was very welcoming and friendly so I'd encourage you to take one in if the location and timing work.
