The two layout differ principally in galley and lavatory configuration but there are also subtle differences in seat pitch in different parts of the aircraft.
This begs two questions:
1. The fleet page of AC.com currently shows 31 763's. 8+15 = 23. Does this mean that 8 aircraft will be leaving the fleet shortly without being XM'd?
No. There are a few different variants of 763 in the fleet; those are the only two 'types' that have been/in the process of being XM so far, that's why only those 2 types are under the XM seat maps and total doesn't add up to total fleet as the rest of the planes are different types. (31)
2. Once the transition is complete, will we have a way of knowing whether to expect a 763XM or 763EX? The layout can make a big difference in comfort. For example in Layout 1 Rows 12-16 seats A and C have 31" pitch but on Layout 2 the same seats have 33" pitch.
If you're referring to those 2 specific types - one layout has no row 17 so that's one way of distinguishing it.
