Chairmans Club

I have a similar experience with Chairmans Club as reported by ECKOA6.

It's been explained to me at most of the airports I frequent (LAX, FLL, LAS, ORD, etc.) -- by the local reps -- that it is very difficult to pick folks up at the terminal upon arrival because the Police/Security do not allow cars to loiter at curbside. However, whenever we return to the AVIS "lot", the little "V" sticker on our windshield engenders a flurry of activity at each location. An AVIS rep magically appears and drives us to the terminal with our luggage, in the car we are returning -- and unloads our luggage at curbside.

Last week we experienced a weather delayed late arrival after midnight at an airport that shall remain nameless. I have a standing order for "NO CHRYSLER PRODUCTS." The night manager came out of her office to welcome us personally by name and escort us to our car which was parked right next to the double doors. Unfortunately, the late hour and flight fatigue caused me to be oblivious to the CHRYSLER 500 assigned to me. On the way to my 2nd residence, my wife pointed out the CHRYSLER (yuccch!) logo on the steering wheel. After our round of golf the next morning, I called the AVIS Chairmans Club Desk to "discuss" (sweetly of course) the error. They apologized ad nauseum and immediately arranged for me to go to a nearby AVIS off-airport location to exchange the car for a Cadillac CTS.

On returning to this airport, I had another negative experience. The "returns" person who checks cars in (four lanes of returned cars were lined up 12 deep) absolutely ignored us! He simply did not walk to our car -- much less recognize the Chairmans Club "V" sticker. He was chatting with another employee. I went inside to the AVIS Preferred Counter where I was told I had to wait while 3 reps (one of whom was the manager) were fussing over a packet of papers. I forcefully bellowed "Chairmans Club" at which point they all stopped their conversation and immediately came to my assistance.

At this point I was frustrated (not angry, not b:tchy, not yelling because I never yell) because I had been ignored by the "returns" person -- and I was given an unwanted car on my earlier arrival. I made my dissatisfaction known to the manager. --- WOW! She literally pleaded with me not to report my experiences to the Chairmans Club Desk, almost to the point of begging on bended knees. She explained that just one "bad report" causes all sorts of trouble for a location. She offered me coupons, coffee, cookies --- all of which I refused because I'm not big on "compensation for compensation's sake."

Overall, though I have been pleased with AVIS throughout the US, Canada and Europe. The Chairmans Club invitation was an unexpected perk that simply arrived in the mail one day with an offer that was too good to refuse.
