Rice -- I doubt UA had anything to do with the deletion of the survey threads. There were (at one point) valid questions as to the validity of the survey. I was probably the most vocal of the croud doubting the validity of it. Eventually it turned out to be real. At the same time, the survey was closed too. Made the whole discussion/thread pointless, so I can see it being deleted.

Anyhow, survey's up again. Check the "General Info" thread on UA.
