--------------UPDATE------------------------
When I first read this thread, it was like deja vu... cause I knew exactly where EPS was comming from when describing the reroute and reissue, and his dealing with UA, and how he felt the absolute need to rebook all the busted segments, and so I thought it was extremely funny... cause I definitely have 'been there, done that' exactly as he describes. Infact, I was really just looking back and in retrospect, laughing my own identical experiences (pre-mileage run education). This exact 'same scenario' Mileage Run 'Battle Story' has happened to t4f many times too, but this was before I accidentally stumbled across a better mouse trap... and learned to run smarter, rather than harder!

I think I'm in the mood to share...
---------------------------------------------

Tvl4free's going to let the original poster and other interested FTers in on a little secret- that has not really been well publicised on these boards, and so the novice runner might not yet have figured this one out - so shush - don't tell anyone - cause this pearl is from tvl4free's PRIVATE COLLECTION: it is to the FTers advantage for a UA segment based mileage run to bust!

Tvl4free will repeat: it is to the FTers advantage for UA segment based mileage run to bust!

If and when this should occur, the UA FTer Mileage Runner should IMMEDIATELY acknowledge himself as a winner! You played the game according to UA's rules (you know, 14 day adv. purchase, T/W/S only. etc, etc.)... and as fate would have it, 'ya actually won one'... a little faster... and a little easier... than originally expected!

Actually, the victory is kind of like winning the lottery - so tvl4free suggests that FTers just chill, and put away the boxing gloves (as did NOT occur in the scenario described above)... and immediately chant 'The Mileage Run Mantra'... over and over and over... for a least five full minutes, 'Yummy, yummy, yummy... FOUR paws up! Yummy, yummy, yummy... FOUR paws up!'

Why all the elation one may ask? Cause ya just know that segments4free are shortly gonna be headed directly to the bank4free!

And, because you know that you're already a winner, there'll be no more need to play in the Mileage Run 'Segment Sandbox' TODAY!

Let tvl4free splain:

Mileage Plus has an unwriten EXCEPTION policy that whenever a flight irregularity occurs (ie. a mechanical or schedule change cancellation) that they will credit you with the mileage that was on the original PURCHSED itinerary (and not necessarily credit one's MP act. according to the way that you were re-routed) .

Therefore, if an FTer has like 10 -12 simple segments booked in one day, and flight number one busts... the entire itinerary will probably domino and 'bust'. Should this occur, no need fuss over it.... no need to try and follow the initial itinerary... no need to rebook all the busted segments - just to 'catch up'. Infact, there is now NO need to actually fly the originally booked segments at all. Just have UA reroute you to your destination in the quickest and fastest possible way, ie. NONSTOP or DIRECT or via a SINGE CXN!

Later, once the trip is over, you can simply submit the documentation to MP and get credit for the original itinerary. Sometimes this can even be done with just a simple phone call.

Remember: busted can = nuf for today!

From UA's MP Program Rules No. 18:

...Mileage will be credited only for flights actually flown by the member. Mileage credit will not be awarded for flt cancellations, except that UA may, at its discretion, give credit for flights cancelled due to mechanical reason or schedule reduction.
</font>
With the story that was initailly described, what a tremendous amount of effort went into to arranging the re-route... the trip to the CTO... the phone calls to res... and not to mention the STRESS placed on the runner... golly, geez!

Had the scenario above been presented to tvl4free today, post Phd., t4f would have jumped on the opportunity to take the fastest possible way offered by UAL to get tvl4free to JAX. I would have dealt with the busted segments later, in accordance with the UA policy just described.

Pre-mileage run Phd., tvl4free would have been rebooking all of those busted segments, and flying all of those 'night into day' trips, just dizzy as one could be. These 'night into day' trips are not good for one's body - just ask any pilot or F/A.

Post mileage run bust, and with Phd. in hand, tvl4free would be getting to his destination quick, cause one can never be lounging around the pool or catching a few rays too soon. Ya know what I mean?

Sometimes there are just easier ways to do things: better mouse traps, so to speak!

Hopefully this info will help some FTer somewhere, if and when turbulance occurs.

BTW, and humm... 'Tvl4free's Private Collection.' That one I kinda like!
