I doubt a "Y" class fare would drop $60 and turn into a "V" class fare. Could it be that on the web you're told the class, as in class of service is Y (economy) as opposed to the booking class? "V" class fares are bargain cheapies, while "Y" class are full fare unrestricted, and would run some thousands of dollars on a route like LHR-SFO.
