Agreed. I find the journey by taxi or car service from/to LHR very agreeable and although I normally only do it when travelling with a friend, have not had problems even if the rush hour (although I am told they can happen). LGW, on the other hand, is a horrible road journey to central London. I had to do it once when my boyfriend's flight MAD-LGW was 90 minutes late and there wasn't a train for over an hour at that time of night (around 1am). Even without traffic, it involved a long journey with a lot of small country roads. The fact that we hadn't planned to do it - so had to get a horrible MPV at the airport rather than a nice Mercedes booked in advance (which would have been cheaper) - didn't help, but I still wouldn't do it again in a hurry.
