I am doing a mileage run on UA out of Buffalo (because I live in Toronto) on Dec 4-5 which will net me 7718 status miles for $192. It's 8 segments, 6 of which are short hops of less than 500 miles (but you get min credit of 500 miles), plus 2 transcons. I don't even need a hotel as I will be taking a red eye back from the West coast. Not sure if you will need to overnight somewhere since you will be leaving from the west coast.
