I'd suspect Verizon would work with Vodafone since Vodafone is/was a part owner of Verizon Wireless.
When I was on O2 UK, I could not receive any texts from my family on Verizon in the UK. Curiously, they said they were able to recieve my texts.
My friend on AT&T mobile was able to successfully receive and send to me on O2 UK.
