When there is a flight within 4 hours with space available for confirmed standby, a separate button labeled "change flight" appears, which allows you to choose to do a confirmed standby.

You can't standby for later flights online. You either need to call (for confirmed standby; I don't remember whether the phone agents can put you on the DM list for regular standby) or do it at the airport. The Easy Checkin kiosk gives you standby (and confirmed standby) options when you check in after your flight departs.
