It's a shame more isn't made of Birmingham - the station's on the West Coast Main Line - 80 mins from London (73 mins from Jan '09) and ideal for people on the northern side of London. Why not close LHR and operate LGW for London and south and BHX for the North of London/Midlands?

Not serious by the way ... but if we don't think/get outside the box we'll get stuck in it.
