I was on an award stay there in October that was booked as a smoking room, but was able to stay in a non-smoking room. It may help to call the hotel directly after you make your reservation to confirm and make the non-smoking request, and certainly try again at check-in. No issue at all with smoking smell in the public areas. Enjoy your stay, it's a nice hotel.
