And, as has been said so much already, most people don't follow this so closely - e.g., I had no idea there were so many of these being sold until recently. Heck, I only fly United once or twice a year nowadays. I only go to ebay (and almost never for travel-related stuff) about once every few weeks.
that's the boat i was in ... got a few for our thanksgiving trip and then my in-laws used a few for a trip as did a co-worker and that was it.
i don't visit FT much but after seeing a TON show up at ebay, i dropped by here and got brought up to speed on what was going down. it's sad that this was likely abuse but for me it's post de facto.
as far as United is concerned, if it was "so obvious" what was going on, how is it that the consumers figured it out first? that doesn't make sense to me.
