Has BA sold my seats to someone else?

A series of not overly unusual, but unhelpful circumstances make me jump, perhaps unfairly, to the conclusion that I'm about to be downgraded or offloaded in favour of higher revenue pax.

1. Connecting flight to BA via CX: was told they couldn't issue BP for my BA segment.
2. BA flight: via a flight connections type thingy overseas, contract staff who then call someone over in BA uniform who asks whether the two of us travelling might prefer an earlier flight (15 mins difference in landing time at LHR) as we might be able to get better seats. Given we're already in First, difficult to see how that might be possible, beyond resurrecting Concorde.
3. When I said, no thanks, happy to stick with what I've got, they weren't best pleased.
4. I'm on a paper ticket, the coupon of which they took out at the transfer desk -- ie it's not tucked into the back of the BP. I always thought that for the few routes which are still based on paper tix, the coupon would be taken out at the gate, just prior to boarding.
5. The BP printed out that the gate closes at 20 past the hour, in line with the published schedule. Yet this was crossed out and a time 20 minutes earlier was handwritten on my BP. No explanation given, no schedule change.

Any views on whether something sus is going on? Or is the jet lag making me a tad paranoid?
