Many airlines train their F/A to place to ASA
on the tray... then the pax has to pick it up, open it, and physically injest it himself. With some carriers, it's the same with the mini alcohol bottles. The pax has to open the bottle, mix with the drink, and serve it to himself.

I've been informed that this is done for legal reasons...
