Exclamation US to launch PHL-LHR

The plot thickens...US announces service from PHL to LHR from Spring 2008, only a few weeks after bmi delayed its own services until Spring 2009 at the earliest.

I wonder how US managed to secure slots (given that bmi has repeatedly said it does not want to sell any slot pairs) or what this means for the long-term future of PHL-LGW.

The airline plans to operate the flights with US Airways flagship international aircraft, the Airbus A330 offering 29 Envoy and 259 economy seats.

The new Philadelphia-Heathrow route will be US Airways' seventh new transatlantic route since 2006. With the new service, US Airways' European destinations served from Philadelphia increase to 20.

Not clear where in T1 US will go, either. UA and NZ don't move across from t3 until later next year and BA doesn't move out until the day before US is due to begin service!
