So how many have we dined at or recommended here collectively?
Two of the Ukai restaurants are there, including the Tofuya Ukai - which may or not be suitable for vegetarians (who call in advance). Based on that, the one that specialises in chicken near Takao San (Ukai Toriyama) would probably get a star and seems a much more interesting dining venue than Beige.
And I'm gratified to see
Chez Tomo on the list, especially as it's at the very verge of what I can afford (around 2,900yen for a 4 course lunch - dinner is around 6,000yen for 6 courses). I had a wonderful lunch here and, from what I understood, they are usually able to cater to vegetarians - but it's best to enquire first. They use organic seasonal ingredients and free range meats.
Not sure why Okina (Ebisu) is there when other (IMO better) places that specialise in soba have been ignored.
But, to be honest, I think this list just highlights what a small sample of the thousands of Tokyo restaurants have been evaluated for inclusion. I'm sure many, many other restaurants could have been included. I predict there will be plenty more stars in the next edition.
According
to this only 1,500 restaurants were evaluated. The authors accept the estimate of at least 160,000 restaurants in the city.
What this list really affirms to me is that you don't need a huge budget to enjoy a world class meal in Tokyo.
Itadakimasu!
