You can easily downgrade to the non-elite card and avoid that annual fee by calling customer service. Your card number remains the same and all of your existing points remain intact. You can then upgrade to the elite card at a future time, or apply for a new PP elite account and get the sign-up bonus again. I have had the non-elite card for about 6 months, and just got an offer in the mail for double points on EVERYTHING for the next 6 months if I choose to pay the $75 and upgrade. Not worth it now because I have the Citi Amex Plat, but after 2 years, maybe would be.
