If I don't get cleared at 24 hours, should I pull the eVIP (just prior to 4 hours) and try the telephone system at 4 hours like I normally would for a comp upgrade? Will another EXP calling in at 4 hours get his comp upgrade (X) since I'm waiting for my eVIP (A) to clear and can't use the telephone system to massage my eVIP upgrade into play?

If none of that works, what clears first at the gate? My eVIP or another EXP's comp upgrade. The EXP desk says that AA would much rather take something of relative value (eVIP) to them before giving a complimentary EXP upgrade. Has anyone found this to be consistently the case?

Any first hand experience would be greatly appreciated.
you also might want to try CC before you burn a EVIP on a transcon 757 flight. perhaps you can trade with someone for the 15k upgrade award in exchange for the evip. that's a trade i would be interested. I also think it is very unlikely that any F seats will be open on that flight for upgrade. You should keep checking EF just in case. Good luck!
