Thanks all. I'm always impressed by the obscure but very useful knowledge on these boards, and the willingness to help. I think I will go with the 22 inch model. Need all the space I can get to avoid checking luggage.

One final question: has anyone tried the expandable versions of the Tumi wheelies?
