In a 777 if we each took a window seat.... for example 2A and 3A.... would we be able to talk or at least see each other or are they too isolated.

We have travelled in 2EF on the 777 and will do so again next year from SYD to LHR. Whilst you can sit by the window or across the aisle from each other, sitting in the middle 2 seats is really the best place for couples, unless you do not want to sit together(!). I would agree with the comment regarding row 1- next to the curtain, by the galley and also the WC if you sit in 1F. Row 3 is close to the J galley. If you sit in front of each other, you will not be able to communicate easily, but can of course eat, restaurant style, using the buddy seat as mentioned already.
