ORD has specific Premier/Premier Exec and 1K lines at the far (right, IIRC) end of the check in area (you have to walk a bit to find them, and you're right it isn't clear!). I found SEA's checkin, for example, to be confusing the first time through, but it made more sense later (they have a full fare F/1K line, then a PremEx/Upgrades line, then a Premier/Y line). Most smaller stations have a Premier/First sign that indicates exactly.
You guys should try checking in for TG at PER sometime!!! AN has a huge "Star Aliance" totem pole thingo up, with the carrier logos, so you go there, and they have a Y line and a J/*G line) but TG is handled by ** QF ** so you have to go check in with Qantas at some random position. They let me use the club at least after telling me that they really shouldn't let me in as I was "the enemy"(holding my UA 1P card). The lounge sucked anyway
