EVA Air is my favorite airline across the Pacific. Unlike China Airlines which has a very poor safety record, EVA Air is a very safe airline. AFAIK it never had a major accident.

Their Economy Deluxe/Elite product is also the best deal from SFO to Asia. I just finished a r/t SFO-TPE-BKK in ED and it was only US $240 more r/t than regular economy and comparable in price to UA or ANA regular economy. This is a steal just for the better seat alone (which is comparable to US domestic business/first class seats).

While their service is not quite as good as Singapore Airlines or ANA they are still way better than the US carriers. Overall, I consider them very dependable, safe, and a great bargain for what they offer.
