You should be able to open a NW account with no problem. Use the new NW account number to book the ticket. After you book the ticket, you can change the elite number to CO. I seem to recall that some features (such as a free refund within 24 hours (or midnight day after) required a NW elite number, so take that into account before putting the new number in.
