If I were away from home at Christmas, I would want at least to be in a place that has a strong Christmas atmosphere & tradition.
So I would not be heading to Spain or France but to Vienna or Prague, if we're talking main cities, or to a winter resort
Just because Spaniards didn't buy into the whole Bearded Man in a Red Suit silliness until recently doesn't mean there isn't a strong Christmas tradition in Spain. There is
plenty of Christmas atmosphere.
You
do realise that traditional Christmases have nothing to do with Santa Claus/Papa Noel/Father Xmas don't you? There wasn't much snow in Bethlehem either.

Have you yourself experienced Spain at Christmas? You know, had your ears grated by the recorded jingly villancicos screamed by happy children that get blasted in every store, and so you can't even look at turron for the rest of the year without feeling queasy.
The
Christmas lights alone in any of Spain's cities make the Tokyo
Millenario lights (which its millions of visitors have to queue for hours in order to shuffle through and see them) look sterile and disappointing.
Spain not having a "strong Christmas atmosphere & tradition". What hogwash! I'm not even offended this is so ridiculous, it just smacks of ignorance.
Elsewhere in Europe many countries reach the climaxes of their celebrations earlier. This is why I thought the OP might perhaps want to go somewhere else if they plan on spending their time hunting for bargains in shops' sales.
